Happy Birthday, Gomez. 10-3-2019

Look, Squirrel!

The phrase is used to tease our dogs, but with minor alterations
one could adapt it for journalists by calling it a tweet;
or “I’m 29 again!” when unwanted birthday wishes appear from friends and relations;
or “I thought it was April 18th this year!” when taxes are due! Oh, wouldn’t that be sweet?
But throwing the newshounds off the scent only works on professionals,
children and others unrestricted by fact-checking can smell skunks
no matter how often they hold up acorns in their confessionals.
Better to open the restricted areas and let the bad air out than debunk
the emperor’s latest fascist statement by mislabeling it: “fashion statement.”
Is this the teapot calling the kettle whistleblower? But the sense
of the indictment (no matter how well-meaning) yields only abatement.
Once the squirrel takes off its costume or jumps the fence
called attention span and a video of a kitty cat captures the mice
of millions of computers.  We await a better mousetrap, when the squirrel doesn’t suffice.

Translation Corruption

Well, one thing was certain. My attempt to banish my target's
mind worm was not happening today. Oh, and folks who chastise
for overthinking, have never faith-healed at a distance. Baptise
by fire and risk losing a soul. There's no way to fend off mental harpies
without considering culture, wisdom, layers of meaning in language,
experience, history, and most importantly doing unto others
as they would have done to them by sisters and brothers.
That last commandment alone is so frail in the transfer stage,
that one must at least overfeel it if not overthink it. Oh,
if only I were in the same timeroom as the one with the mind bug,
I could do the simplest profound act of understanding and offer a hug.
But that is what makes remote faith-healing so
difficult. I sigh my disappointment and rise,
to go out for a garden walk among the azalea's beauty so wise.

Marriage Advice-- A hug works better than discourse sometimes

If I could wish anything for you it would be to
give you the constant recognition of what you already
have--best summed up by a two- or three-year old child
wearing play clothes with smudges of bright tempera paint running
to you after trying so hard all day to follow
impossible and ludicrous directions of
how to be a better person; just to give
you a hug that says: "this fleeting expression of love
is how I want to hold you forever."
Be that loving child for each other every day,
and you will have what most people dream of.

Heisenberg Specialist Watson

So Watson waltzed over to my lotus position,
to check my logic stream prior to projecture,
"Here is the problem, it is one of conjecture!
You must be positive of your quantum decision.
Is it wavelike or particular observation you are wanting?"
She asked with a smile. My answer came with feeling of punting,
"Both?" Then she scoffed with a frown of dismayed derision,
"Certainly not! What nonsense, Initiate! Choose one or the other
Translation, not both! King James or International, are you trying to joke?"
"No." was my sheepish reply as I felt her pointed finger's poke,
As she said, "Well, as an initiate,  you should have caught that one, Brother!
Then she stomped back to her desk, much put out by the interruption.
But I couldn't help wonder about the effect of translation corruption.

Project Nexus. Sonnet 1.

My project nexus ID shows: Spo Blue.
Birthdate: Inexact. Eyes: Green, Sex: Male
Age 20, Six-Eleven Robert Frost Trail
Projector-initiate, Nexus Level Two.
Currently, I am reminded of a sentence spoken
By Master Projector Twiz in my first Nexus lecture,
As I contemplate Mark 9:29 prior to my next projecture.
King James says "only prayer AND fasting." But broken
understanding of what was really meant,
keeps me twirling my ID badge bemused
Since in the International Version only "prayer" is used.
With my eyes on the IDs rainbow hologram bent.
Before I project, (I know my doubt's too much,)
I call in a Heisenberg specialist, before I release the clutch.

Project Nexus

The following pages will contain an exploration of a genre I am calling Sci-fai (pronounced sigh-fay). This fiction genre includes elements of science and elements of faith. It is not the first of its kind. I am only bringing it up to underscore what many already believe: one does not have to purge one's faith in order to be scientific and one does not need to deny science in order to be faithful. Enjoy the spirit exploration that follows and know you are not alone.

"Faith without inquiry is blind. Inquiry without faith is sterile. Faith and inquiry without love is disastrous."

December 9 2018

Twenty-nine years ago we waited for you on this day
for the last time. How many moments of wonder you brought
us that day for the first time? "Making you laugh," you would say
at age 5, was your reason for being and we laughed oft
enough. Earlier I would lift you high in the air while
listening to Over the Top from The Iron Man CD;
tickling your belly with my nose when the YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YAY-A-YEAH Part
came. And you would squeal with delight. Do you see
how you could lift me higher than I could lift you?
Imagination was our augmented reality. I played the dented iron giant
saved by your love for me from being a weapon. Years later
when my father was dying of a head injury caused by cancer
I would listen to the last song on the CD and remember our distant laughter
as the phrase: All will be well and all will be well and all manner of things
will all be well: embraced me. And all the best cowboys from Julian of Norwich to Pete Townshend
smiled in the promise kept: New Life.
