My summer vacation
Capture the flag time and the twilight kids
Are on the prowl trying to pry the last
Pearl hours out of summer; along with lids
(Tin caps really) off the bottles of the past.
United states of consciousness in the fabric
Rules the play. So you see, there will be no cheating.
Everybody knows when something runs afoul. Abso-
Tricking-lutely, The chaos that it would bring, though fleeting,
Hangs on the moments like dew on blades forming
Every hour after dark when the field is silent,
When flag is put away, traded for the school one they pledge in morning.
In essays of what they did they form lines with heads bent.
No way to tell how much fun they had, but ultimately it is better
Done well and half-heartedly recounted, than daydreamed in an unwritten letter.
