Staycation
(For Simon)

Perhaps discovery is where God cherishes most.
It starts with the hands unknowing greeting to the world
Glimpsed for an instant and then lost.
Good day to you and whoa! What have you unfurled?
It is attached to you. It moves on will.
Let's go and catch everything! But where will we put it?
Yellow fireflies and kisses and cardinals on the sill.
Well, it was worth a shot. But see there! The hooded
Interloper taps the trunk in determined rat-a-tat. His nib
Goes crazy. You can frame him in a heart made of thumbs and fingers:
Gently cradle the moment before, further out or nearer, it lived:
Irate for its out-of-reachness; but satisfied in what lingers:
Landing focus on bare toes, once upon the gumshoe tome,
You go whee, whee, whee, all the way home.
